On February 10, the Birthright Israel Foundation Board Reception in Sunny Isles Beach, FL, brought together supporters, alumni, and leaders to celebrate Birthright Israel’s 25th anniversary and its lasting impact, recently confirmed by Brandeis University’s Jewish Futures Project. Hosted by Leslie Dezer and her family at the Bentley Residences Gallery, the evening featured inspiring remarks from Birthright Israel Foundation National Board Chair Phil de Toledo, Board Member Mike Rashes and Birthright Israel Foundation President and CEO Elias Saratovsky, a tribute to two distinguished alumni—IDF Reservist Sam Fried and campus activist Adela Cojab—and a powerful discussion with civil rights trailblazer Alyza D. Lewin on the challenges facing Jewish students today.
“When I was in Gaza, I should have been killed ten times over. The difference between life and death—between a bullet or a rocket-propelled grenade striking my team and me—was not just luck. It was your prayers. Your thoughts. It was the strength of the community built between Birthright Israel participants and the soldiers who join them. It is the unbreakable bond between Jews, no matter where we are in the world.” – Sam Fried
“With the ocean as a backdrop, we gathered to celebrate the impact of Birthright Israel. Guests reconnected, shared stories, and reflected on the power of this life-changing journey. The true highlight was hearing from two inspiring Birthright Israel alums, Sam Fried and Adela Cojab. Their testimony brought our mission to life—strengthening the future of the Jewish people.” – Phil de Toledo
