Q&A with Liza Kay

What inspired you to sign up for Onward Israel, and did you have any preconceived notions prior to going?

Liza Kay: “Before Onward Israel, I went to Israel two previous times. Both times were trips that were booked with learning and traveling from sunrise to sunset. I have heard of people living in Israel and absolutely loving the lifestyle. I wanted to be a part of the Israel lifestyle and really learn why so many people loved it so much.”

What was your biggest takeaway?

Liza Kay: “What I truly loved about living and working in Israel was learning how relaxed people were. In America, during the week, we work and then mainly go home to relax for the next workday. In Israel, after work, people really enjoy their lives and did what they wanted. I loved that after my internship day would end, the nights always felt like the weekend. Everyone seems happier and less stressed!”

How has Onward Israel played a role in your life since coming home from the trip?

Liza Kay: “I was able to meet so many people from all over. I did Onward Israel in 2021, and this summer, I am currently working in Chicago. I have been making plans with people from different states and colleges that I met during my Onward Israel experience.”

Liza Kay: “I feel a stronger connection to Israel. I was able to learn the bus system and find my favorite restaurants in Israel. I was able to meet so many Israelis. Living in Israel and being on a trip there are two different experiences.”

If you could meet the donors who made your experience possible, what would you say to them?

Liza Kay: “I would thank them and let them know that I was able not only to meet so many new people who I will know forever, but I was able to learn a lot about myself and realize I am mature enough to be in a country alone and I am mature enough to work for people who are from a different culture.”
