Close your eyes. Imagine you are in Israel. Breathe in the smell of the spices in…
On November 17, 2024, the Miami Jewish philanthropic community gathered at the Rubell Museum for a special evening honoring Sharon and Howard Socol for their extraordinary decade of leadership as Miami Ambassador Council Co-Chairs of Birthright Israel. The event was an exciting celebration of Sharon and Howard’s dedication to ensuring a vibrant Jewish future by supporting Birthright Israel’s transformational programs.
The energy in the room was electric as guests reflected on the necessity of fostering Jewish pride and resilience in the next generation. The evening featured powerful speakers, including Honorary Board Chair Emeritus Thomas D. Stern, who shared how his first trip to Israel for his daughter’s Bat Mitzvah redefined his connection to Judaism and Israel.
Birthright Israel Foundation President and CEO Elias Saratovsky spoke about the challenges of the past year while offering a hopeful vision for the future. As he reminded us, the emergent young Jewish leaders are empowered, courageous and tenacious, and Birthright Israel programs equip them with the confidence and tools to lead our communities.
Young activist Tessa Veksler spoke about her fight against antisemitism on her college campus, while newly engaged couple Rebecca Starr and Benjy Katz told the heartwarming story of how they met on the Birthright Israel Volunteer Program.
For an incredible finale, Sharon and Howard announced their new roles as Legacy Chairs — as well as their generous legacy gift to Birthright Israel. They encouraged everyone to join them in making a legacy gift to ensure that Birthright Israel exists forever. They drew the night to a close by introducing incoming Ambassador Council Co-Chairs Jane Gold and Scott Srebnick.
This unforgettable evening was a testament to the strength and unity of Miami’s Jewish community and the power of Birthright Israel. Let us honor Sharon and Howard’s remarkable work and legacy by giving every Jewish young adult the opportunity to find Jewish pride, resilience, purpose and connection.
It costs $5,000 to bring one participant on a classic 10-day trip. Help us reach a new generation of Jewish young adults, and build a stronger, brighter Jewish future together. Join us by making a gift today!
