From June 12-14, 2023, Birthright Israel Foundation’s Board of Directors gathered in Israel for a retreat where they had the opportunity to see our mission come to life. The Board enjoyed hearing those leading the educational strategy for Birthright Israel and meeting senior Israeli staff. Participants from Onward joined the Board for dinner, helping to build greater connection and understanding of the newest program to fall under the Birthright Israel umbrella. Onward participants spoke to the group about what interning in Israel was like and how they believed this immersive experience would further their careers and connection to the Jewish homeland.
The next day, the Board spent time with a Birthright Israel group at the Anu Museum in Tel Aviv and then, later on, danced through the streets with Guru Zuzu: a silent disco! They then met with a Russian-speaking group from the US where they were joined by Dr. Miriam Adelson for an open conversation about the impact of their experience. The last day of the retreat was spent in Jerusalem, where the Board had the pleasure of meeting President Herzog and the First Lady at their residence. Following this exclusive visit, the group met with Professor Gil Troy and then proceeded to meet two Birthright Israel groups for their visits to Har Herzl. They concluded the trip with a beautiful dinner in Jaffa, celebrating Birthright Israel’s long-standing partnership with the IDF.
It was a meaningful, jam-packed few days that was enjoyed by all.
